A click on a session opens its detail view – either as a page of its own with its own address or as a pop-up over the overview. Content and structure are the same in both cases.
Page or pop-up?
| Criterion | Own page (default) | Pop-up |
|---|---|---|
| Experience | A classic page view in your theme; the guest leaves the overview. | Opens over the calendar (up to 1200 px wide); filters and scroll position are kept. |
| Address | Every session has its own address – good for search engines and sharing. | The content is loaded in; the overview remains the current page. |
| Setting | Settings → Design & Options → Detail page: “Separate page” | “Pop-up modal” there |
| For one embed only | – | Parameter detail_view="modal" or "page" on any shortcode |
Open event detail page in sets the target window (same or new); it can be overridden per session. Speakers have their own, similar setting (“Speaker detail view”, default: same as events).
What the detail view shows
| Area | Content |
|---|---|
| Header | Featured image (or inherited image), category badge, title; the red badge if cancelled. |
| Key facts | Date tile, time, venue – plus the “Hall plan” button with the exhibitor plugin –, the first person with role, language, price. |
| Exhibitor | With the exhibitor plugin: the linked exhibitor as a card of its own with logo, type and country. |
| Actions | Ticket, add to favorites, save date (iCal), share. |
| Description | The full text, optionally followed by the “More information” button (external link). |
| Other participants | All people from the second on, with image, position and company (see Speaker detail page). |
| Categories and links | All categories and the stored links & social media. |
| Related sessions | See below. |
Switches under “Design & Options”
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| External link button | Shows “More information” with the session’s external link below the description. |
| Related events | Shows “More dates & related sessions”. Switched off, the section is neither shown nor calculated. |
| Smart display | Hides past sessions while the event is running. Once the whole event is over, all reappear – the archive stays complete. |
| Share button | The device’s share function, alternatively “Copy link” and QR code. |
How related sessions are found
The plugin compares sessions of the same main event by points: same speaker (+100), same core title (+90) and shared distinctive keywords (+60). This finds repeats of a workshop, the signing session for a reading or other appearances of the same person. Filler words and generic terms such as “Workshop” or “Show” are ignored in eleven languages; developers add their own stop words via the event_calendar_stop_words filter (see Hooks & filters).
If you change the URL path for sessions (e.g. from events to program), the detail page shows a 404 error at first. Click “Save Changes” once under Settings → Permalinks (WordPress) – done. If another plugin uses the same path (e.g. “The Events Calendar” with /events), choose a unique name.
The template templates/single-event.php can be copied into your theme (subfolder convention-schedule-planner/) and designed freely – the plugin then uses your version. See Overriding templates.
